Biology

What is biology?

the study of living organisms, divided into many specialized fields that cover their morphology, physiology, anatomy, behavior, origin, and distribution.

Whos the teacher?

Ms. Chen emphasizes observation, experiments, and practical projects to enhance learning.

What should you expect to see in this class?

Biology at palmer examines living organisms, their structures, functions, and interactions with the environment. For a possible project in the class, students would be required to creat models of human body systems and diagrams illustrating organ functions and interactions. They would be able to use textbooks, online resources, and craft materials to build accurate models. Students would gain an understanding of body system functions and their interactions. Seeing how all systems work together as a whole is both educational and fascinating in this class.

Top art of the subject:

Biology – The Art of Life

Biology helps us understand living things and how everything in nature connects. The top art could be a Microscope Sketch Project, showing drawings of cells, plants, or organisms in detail.

It would highlight the beauty and design that exist naturally in all forms of life.

How does it affect your future?

Diverse Career Opportunities

Healthcare and Medicine: Foundation for becoming doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, genetic counsellors, or physiotherapists.

Biotechnology and Research: Opportunities in drug development, genetic engineering, and, increasingly, AI-driven bioinformatics to solve medical and agricultural problems.

Environmental Science and Conservation: Roles such as zoologists, wildlife biologists, conservation scientists, and environmental consultants, focusing on biodiversity and habitat protection.

Industry and Technical Roles: Laboratory technicians, pharmaceutical sales representatives, food scientists, and quality control analysts.

Education and Communication: Science teachers, professors, or science writers/communicators.

This is an example of a possible project in this course!

Recent developments?

Recent biology developments focus on gene editing (CRISPR to turn genes on/off), understanding aging (how it affects immunity/metabolism), mapping complex cellular processes (DNA folding, protein cleanup), exploring origins of life (giant viruses, early fossils), and using AI to analyze biological data (cell structures, genetics). Key areas include new diagnostics, understanding microbial roles in health, and discoveries about evolutionary adaptations, from ancient microbes to modern diseases.
